The Berlin Wall - Art that expresses hope for freedom

What remains today of the Berlin Wall which once was a physical division between the East and the West are only bits and pieces which remind the world of the bitterness of the Cold War and the suffering caused to thousands and thousands who attempted to either escape, fight for their freedom, visit loved once or were brutally killed attempting to cross the zone. Today we visited The Berlin Wall East Side Gallery which is a 1.3km-long section of the wall near the center of Berlin. Approximately 106 paintings by artists from all over the world, expressing great hopes for a free and better future for all cover this memorial for freedom and make it the largest open air gallery in the world. It was a really remarkable experience to visit this historical monument and although the passage of time tends to soften the outlines, the history of the Berlin Wall will continue marking the reality of the World War II.
